A Trencher is a digging machine that digs trenches for laying pipes, cables, irrigation lines, edging or drainage. Trenchers range is size from ones that you can walk behind, to ones that you can attach to tractors, to very large heavy tracked engineering vehicles.
Some types of Trenchers include Wheel Trenchers, Chain Trencher, Rockwheel, and Portable Trenchers. A Wheel Trencher are usually mounted on track or tires and use buckets that move around to excavate the material. A Chain Trencher digs trenches using a digging chain wrapped around a metal frame. They look like extremely large chain saws. A Rockwheel is a toothed metal wheel that spins around to dig trenches. They look like large circular saws. A portable trencher usually are used for lawns and are very light. They may have blades like the Rockwheel or chains like the Chain trencher.
