Rough terrain scissor lifts are another type of Aeriel Work Platform (AWP). These are design for use outdoors in uneven or rough surfaces where less reach and height are required but greater weight lifting capacity and work space are desired. Rough terrain scissor lifts may be moved by the operator into the desired location, but can only extend upwards without any horizontal reach typically.
Rough terrain scissor lifts operate by using a series of criss-crossing supports that expand and contract on the vertical plane. The come in a variety of power sources hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical and are frequently preferred over other lifting machines because the decent requires no power to reach the ground safely. The fail-safe on a rough terrain scissor lifts may be released from the top without any power.
Rough terrain scissor lifts are used in a wide variety of settings where a stable platform is needed and the ability transverse rough terrains is desired. There are a number of manufacturers of that produce rough terrain scissor lifts of varying size and weight limits. Some of these include: Genie, Upright, Grove, JLG, Snorkel, Sky Jack and others.
