Raymond Corporation started as a family-owned business in 1922 and now as part of the Toyota Materials Handling Group, the largest lift truck manufacturer in the world. They invented the first commercially successful hydraulic hand lift truck in 1934 as well as the first narrow aisle truck, the Model 700 Space Maker, in 1951 and to the first widely accepted AC-powered reach truck in North America.
In 1997, BT Industries of Sweden acquired The Raymond Corporation. Toyota Industries Corporation of Japan acquired BT Industries in 2000, making Raymond part of the Toyota Materials Handling Group. Combined, the three companies make up the largest lift truck manufacturer in the world. Raymond has developed and introduced products and technologies that have become industry standards such as the hydraulic hand pallet truck, the two-faced pallet, the narrow aisle lift truck and the Reach-Fork truck. They have also been a leader in advancing the development of electronic controls, ergonomic design and AC power for lift trucks.
