Komatsu Limited is a Japanese company that manufactures construction, mining, and military equipment, industry machinery such as press machines, lasers, and thermoelectric modules. In 1917 Takeuchi Mining Industry, which was founded in 1894, established Komatsu Iron Works to manufacture machine tools and mining equipment for in-house use.
Komatsu is the world's second largest manufacturer of Construction and Mining Equipment after Caterpillar. However, in certain geographic areas (Japan, China, Middle East), Komatsu has a larger share than Caterpillar. It has manufacturing operations in Japan, Asia, Americas and Europe.
Komatsu makes the largest bulldozer in the world, the D575. Besides construction and mining equipment they also manufacturer compact or mini utility vehicles like mini excavators, backhoe loaders and skid steer loaders. Komatsu also manufacturers forest machines, forklift trucks, large press systems, medium sized and small presses, sheet-metal machinery, machine tools, excimer lasers, and temperature-control equipment.
