GMC stands for General Motors Corporation. GMC was founded on September 16, 1908, in Flint, Michigan, as a holding company for Buick, then controlled by William C. Durant. AS the company progressed, it acquired other companies like Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Elmore, Oakland - later know as Pontiac, and several other companies. General Motors acquired the Reliance Motor Truck Company of Owosso, Michigan, and the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company of Pontiac, Michigan, which later became the birth of GMC Trucks.
GMC produces light duty vehicles as well as medium duty vehicles for the commercial market. Some of their light duty vehicles include the Canyon, Canyon Chassis, Sierra 1500, Savana Cargo, Sierra 2500HD, Sierra 3500HD, Savanna Passanger, Envoy, TopKick, Acadia, Yukon, Savana Cutaway, and Yukon XL. Some of their medium duty vehicles include the TopKick C-Series, T-Series and W-Series.
The GMC TopKick C-Series comes in five models with GVWR's from 15,500 to 63,000 pounds. The GMC T-Series has a cab forward design which allows for an increased interior space and offers the ruggedness of a medium duty truck combined with the increased visibility, maneuverability, and easy access to the power train of a forward cab design. The GMC W-Series has a low cab forward designed which makes it easy to service and comfortable to drive. They are also available with diesel engine.
The medium duty GMC trucks' versatility allows them to perform many jobs, and can be altered to meet a specific function. Some include converting them into flatbed and stackedbed trucks, and well as adding other equipment like booms and buckets.
